What Is That One Thing God Wants You To Do, And Do Well?
Do you know your spiritual gift? Do you know what to do with it?
Most Christians have some idea of what their spiritual gift might be, but what about their calling? In Ephesians 4:1, Paul says, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”
What did Paul mean when he made this statement? We might understand that we have been “captured by the Lord for the Lord’s purposes” but what about living a life worthy of the calling we have received? What is that calling? Clearly, our calling is God’s invitation to receive His free gift of salvation. But, is there more to it?
The International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia (IBSE) states: “Having, in His eternal counsel called this people, He entrusted them with great gifts, and because He did thus enrich them, He also, in the course of time, summoned them to fulfill the task of initiating the world into the way of salvation, and of preparing salvation for the world.”
Not only did God invite humanity to receive His gift of salvation, He also gave us a job to do! He has given us gifts, prepared us, and sent us into the world to do a specific job. The end result of that job, as noted above, is to prepare the way of salvation for the world. Paul tells us that we should live our lives in such a way that we are “worthy” of that invitation.
We work here on the premise that God has given each of His children one job to do, that we should figure out what that job is, and we should put our time and energy into completing that job. While the end result is the same – being a living sacrifice that glorifies God and brings people to Christ – our individual jobs may differ.
In Ephesians 4:11-13, Paul said: 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fulness of Christ.
This course goes beyond discovering your spiritual gift. It delves into your past so that you can clearly see your future and how God has prepared you for the job he has for you. It answers these 3 questions:
1. Where have I been?
2. Where am I going?
3. How will I get there?
Our hope is that, when you’re done with this workshop, you’ll see God’s plan for your life emerging and you’ll have begun the process of getting crucial items on your calendar to help you live out your calling. If it’s not on your calendar, it won’t happen.
